Graduate Writing Motivation
“The thing that makes you exceptional, if you are at all, is inevitably that which must also make you lonely.”
Sometimes your willpower requires an infusion of “whypower”, “howpower” and “nowpower.”
It’s not that the words won’t come. They do indeed arrive, but not when you are at your computer. Speaking of sitting down to write, edit and revise – you are still determined to finish but you’re just…done. What motivated you up until this point has either been fully exhausted or what remains is not enough to move you forward. You are STUCK and part of your massive frustration lies in your fall through this crevasse of 100% sure that you will complete your research, file your dissertation and move forward and being utterly unable to produce the verbiage needed to get your there. Family and friends love you, but they can not help in ways that will advance you toward your goal, which somehow looms large and yet feels out of reach at the moment. Doctoral candidates across the nation have shed some tears, readjusted to their daily realities and returned to the business of writing after experiencing one of our workshops or seminars.
